Volunteer Opportunity: 2010-11 Season of PADS Lunch Preparation

On the fourth Tuesday of every month (from September through April), SEYA gathers at 7:30 p.m. for about 1 hour to prepare bagged lunches for the guests at PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter). It is a fulfilling opportunity to serve the poor and to share that experience with your peers and friends.

If your calendar is open from 7:30-8:30 pm on any of the Tuesdays listed below, please consider volunteering to prepare meals for PADS. We will need 2 types of volunteers each month: (1) someone to host meal preparation at their home and coordinate the purchase of the food and drinks; and (2) individuals who will arrive at the host's home at 7:30 to make sandwiches and bag the lunches.

Please reply to Sara Paguia at paguiasa@yahoo.com with the date(s) that you would like to host meal preparation this year. After coordinating the host sites, Sara will circulate an email each month requesting volunteers to prepare the lunches.

Here are the Tuesdays that we will gather to prepare lunches:

September 28- Sara & Emil Paguia to host
October 26
November 23
December 28
January 25
February 22
March 22
April 26

Elegant Evening Fundraiser -- Volunteer Opportunities!!!

Saint Edmund's annual fundraiser, An Elegant Evening, will be held on Saturday, May 8th. This is our parish's major fundraiser to support church operations and our school. Although it's a few months away, we need your assistance now. Here are some ways in which you can donate time, talent and resources to support YOUR parish:

1) Volunteer for one of the Elegant Evening committees: Auction, Alumni, Raffle, Creative, or Reservations. The time commitment required for each committee varies, but none are too time-consuming.

2) Help us locate underwriters: If your employer would be willing to place an advertisement in the ad book, underwrite the cost of some of the event's food or music, or match a donation to the fundraiser, your input would be greatly appreciated. An Elegant Evening committee member can even speak to a human resources representative from your employer if you'd like.

3) Buy a raffle ticket: Raffle tickets for a cash drawing will be sold after each mass starting in a few weeks. The drawing will be held on the night of the Elegant Evening. You need not be present to win.

4) Join us for the event: You have the option to share a table with other SEYA members. A sit-down dinner, silent and live auction, and music and dancing, comprise the event. It promises to be a great time!

Please contact Al Licup by email at aslicup@msn.com or by phone at (708) 261-7722 if you have questions or can volunteer to support this parish event.

Lenten Faith Sharing -- Week #1

The season of Lent begins next week. SEYA will be hosting a Lenten Faith
Sharing group at individual members' homes in the Oak Park area. The first
gathering will be held next Thursday evening, February 18th, at 7:30pm. Al and
Katie Licup will be opening their home to the group during this first week.
Carl Tullson will host the following week on February 25th.

The faith sharing experience includes a reading, discussion and reflection on
the scripture passages proclaimed each week during Lent. It's a wonderful
opportunity to take an hour break from your busy schedule, to deepen your faith,
and to meet fellow St. Edmund parishoners.

Feel free to join us for one or more of the gatherings. There's no fee to
attend.

Please contact Al Licup at (708) 261-7722, or by email at aslicup@msn.com, if
you're interested in participating. He will provide his home address and
directions when you contact him. Hope to see you there!
